Till 2003, opening a shop in Bangalore was controlled by a centralised, unending process. However, after 2003, the Simplified Trade Licence Procedure was introduced to liberalise the trade licence procedure and one of the aims in liberalising was to avoid middlemen and curtail the wrath of licensing inspectors. While the simplified trade licence procedure has reduced the hassle for a trader, the key to easing the process of starting a shop lies in clamping down on the number of inspectors from various departments.
